We recently watched and teared up as Jimmy Fallon & Questlove shared great memories of Prince. On Tuesday night D’Angelo visited The Tonight Show and raised the bar on all Prince tributes with a soul-shattering performance of “Sometimes It Snows in April,” which Prince recorded exactly 30 years to the date before his death, on April 21, 1986.
The lyrics include lines like “Sometimes I wish life was never-ending / And all good things, they say, never last.” D’Angelo appeared to tear up when he changed one line to “I often dream of heaven and I know that Prince is there.”
D’Angelo was joined by Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum on backups, also known as Prince cover band Princess. Since the demise of the musical genius we’ve seen amazing tributes from the likes of Bruce Springsteen, David Gilmour, The Game, and more! D’Angelo, considered one the few that truly carry on Prince’s musical superiority, proved just that after this performance.
