During the 64th minute of a deadluck game between Team USA and Frances, Team USA Co -Captain Carli Lloyd scored her second goal of the tournament. Helping Team USA hold off France by shutout them out 1-0. This was a statement to the rest of the field of contenders, while helping Team USA move forward by taking that next towards the gold medal in Rio.
Before the Game Goal Keeper Hope Solo made history bby becoming the first at her position to appear in her 200 international game for Team USA and she is the 11th american to achieve this achievement in USWNT history. This is coming on the heels of her recent comments she made regarding the Zika Virus, that has been highly publize throughout the past couple month and caused several athletes to pass on this years games.
In an earlier interview with Sport Illustrated Solo stated in regards to the heckling crowd “I did know they were booing, but it doesn’t affect me,” and she would go on to say I came here to do one thing, and that’s to help our team win, our country win. And I’m very focused in doing that. Is it a bummer? I wish people would understand that I did my due diligence before coming to Brazil.
“It was a personal decision I had to make alongside my husband. And it’s not something I just spoke about without getting educated on. It was something very serious to me because I do want to start a family.”
During the match Carli Lloyd, who scored her 90th international goal on Saturday. she has be a bright light for Team USA so far during this years games, after missing over two months with a knee injury this spring. Next up for Team USA is Colombia on August 9th at 6 PM ET on NBCSN, NBC Universo.
